Cup of Dirt

We always get a kick out of telling people that our company makes dirt (ok, it is very specialized dirt). Seeing as we are in the dirt business we think this skit by Brian Regan is pretty funny.

Genesis

People always ask how we came up with this idea, I don’t know what kind of answer they expect but they are always a little surprised when I tell them how it happened.

I was raised in a family that always talked about business. Between my siblings and me someone always had some of new venture idea that would be talked about at the dinner table. In the winter of 2009 my little brother, T, and I were eating all you could eat breakfast at Magelby’s Fresh, a family favorite. After gorging ourselves on their famous French toast we threw out what we hadn’t eaten. We threw away quite a bit of food and saw that everyone else was throwing out a lot of food. On the ride home we started talking about ways to monetize on people’s food waste. And that was the birth of the idea behind Eco Scraps.

Eco Scraps
